Croatia has become one of Europe’s most attractive destinations for remote workers, offering a streamlined Digital Nomad Residence Permit that allows non-EU nationals to legally live in the country for up to one year. If you are planning to submit your application in 2025, it’s essential to prepare all documents in advance and understand the official rules. Below is the complete, updated guide based on current Croatian regulations.
- Valid Passport
Applicants must submit a copy of a valid passport. The passport must be valid at least three months longer than the intended period of stay.
- Health Insurance
You must provide proof of private or travel health insurance covering the entire duration of your stay in Croatia. The policy must explicitly cover the territory of the Republic of Croatia.
- Proof of Purpose (Remote Work / Digital Nomad Activity)
To prove that you work remotely for a foreign employer or your own non-Croatian company, submit one of the following:
employment contract with a foreign employer
contract for freelance/independent services
proof of company ownership abroad (business registration certificate)
employer’s statement confirming remote work via communication technology
personal statement confirming remote business activity
All documents must be provided in English or Croatian, issued or translated by a certified translator.
- Proof of Financial Means (Income or Savings)
According to the official regulation, digital nomads must earn or hold funds equal to at least 2.5 average monthly net salaries in Croatia.
As of 2025, this amount is:
€3,295 per month, OR
€39,540 in savings for a 12-month stay
€59,310 in savings for an 18-month stay
You may submit:
bank statements proving regular monthly income
six months of payslips
a bank statement showing the full required amount for the entire stay
Documents must be submitted as PDF files up to 2 MB, clearly showing the currency.
- Criminal Background Check
Applicants must provide a legalized criminal record certificate issued by their home country or the country where they lived for more than one year prior to arrival.
This document is not required when extending an existing permit.
- Croatian Address
You must list your address in Croatia when submitting the application.
